Gordon Raisbeck (SM'53-F'69) attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He received the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from M.I.T., Cambridge, MA. Two years of active duty in the Navy as a Radar Technical Officer introduced him to practical engineering and operational problems.During 11 years at Bell Laboratories and 1 year at DARPA he did exploratory development and systems engineering in acoustics applications of semiconductor circuits, transmission lines and satellite communications, and managed an applied research department. At Arthur D. Little, Inc., Cambridge, MA, for the last 22 years, he has carried out and managed programs in anti-submarine warfare and surveillance and other complex systems engineering problems in sonar, radar, communications, remote sensing, and CCCI. Concurrently, he has carried out a number of investigations of technological creativity and technological innovation effectiveness, productivity, and motivation, and has advised clients on R and D planning and management and the strategic management of technology. He was formerly Manager of the Systems Engineering Section and the Physical Systems Research Section, and more recently, Vice-President for Systems Engineering. He retains a professional affiliation with Arthur D. Little, Inc., as he initiates an independent consulting practice in innovation management. He is the author of 30 publications and holds 20 patents.
Dr. Raisbeck is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
