Dale P. Winebrenner (S'79-M'79-S'83-M'83- '84) received the B.S. degree with Highest Distinction in physics from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, in 1979. During the academic year of 1979-1980. he was a Regents Fellow at the University of California at San Diego. He received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering (specializing in applied physics) from that institution in the spring of 1980. He was awarded the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in May of 1985 from the University of Washington, Seattle. His doctoral dissertation concerned the theory of wave scattering from randomly rough surfaces. During i985 and 1986 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, West Germany, where he researched imaging of the ocean surface by synthetic aperture radar.

Since 1986 he has been a Research Scientist in the Polar Science Center of the Applied Physics Laboratory-University of Washington, and a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. In 1987 he was the recipient of a Young Scientist Award from the International Union of Radio Science. His research interests include wave propagation and scattering, remote sensing of the earth and extraterrestrial bodies, and the diagnosis of geophysical systems using remote sensing and other data.

Dr. Winebrenner is a member of Commissions B and F of the International Union of Radio Science and Tau Beta Pi.
