David A. Chin received the B.Sc. degree (with First Class Honors) from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad, the M.S. degree from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, and the Ph.D. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, all in civil engineering.

He is currently a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL, where he has been since 1984. Prior to joining the University of Miami, he was an Assistant Professor of Engineering and Mathematics at Middle Georgia College from 1982 to 1984, and hydropower engineer with Harza Engineering Company, Chicago, IL, from 1978 to 1979.

Dr. Chin is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Geophysical Union. He was awarded the Collingwood Prize by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1989.
