Lester R. LeBlanc (S'60-M'62) was born in Providence, RI, on May 4, 1939. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston.Since 1966 he has worked at Litton Systems, Inc. and with the Submarine Signal Division of Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI. He has been a Professor of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island since 1971. Throughout his career he has always been primarily interested in underwater acoustic signal processing and directional wave spectrum analysis and processing. In particular, deep-ocean seafloor reflection signatures for sediment property determination has been a focal topic. He is the co-inventor of a widely used directional ocean wave sensing buoy. At the University of Rhode Island he is the leader of a course sequence on the subject of data analysis, all with an emphasis on oceangraphic or sonar data.
