Frederick D. Tappert was born in Philadelphia, PA. He received the B.S. degree in engineering science from Pennsylvania State University, State College, in 1962, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, in 1967.
He then joined BTL, Whippany, NJ, where he remained as a Member of the Technical Staff until 1974, when he was appointed as a Research Scientist at the Courant Institute, New York University. In 1978, he moved to the University of Miami, Miami, FL, as a Professor of Applied Marine Physics, a position that he continues to hold. His main interests are the theory and numerical simulation of wave propagation and scattering.
Dr. Tappert is a member of the American Physical Society, the Acoustical Society of America, SIAM, AAAS, and the American Geophysical Union.
