Christian Mätzler was born on March 16, 1945, in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. He received the physics diploma and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland, in 1970 and 1974, respectively.After working at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, he joined the University of Bern, Institute of Applied Physics, in 1978, where he is in charge of the Terrestrial Remote Sensing Project. His research interests are in the fields of active and passive microwave remote sensing, microwave propagation, dielectric behavior of heterogenous media, and solar flares.
Dr. Mätzler is a member of the EPS and of the IAU.
