James A. Ritcey (S'74-M'79-S'83-M'85) received the B.S.E. degree from Duke University, Durham, N.C. in 1976, the M.S.E.E. degree from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., in 1980, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering (communication theory and systems) from the University of California, San Diego, in 1985.

Since 1985, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, where he now holds the rank of Professor. From 1981 to 1985, he was a graduate research assistant at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at UCSD. From 1976 to 1981, he was with the General Electric Company, and graduated from GE's Advanced Course in Engineering. His research interests include radar/sonar signal processing, and communications.

Prof. Ritcey has served as Technical Program Chair of the 1992 Asilomar and General Chair of the 1994 Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers. He served as the General Chairman of the 1995 International Conference on Communications.
