S. A. Hsu received the B.S. degree from National Taiwan University in 1961 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees (all in meteorology) from the University of Texas at Austin in 1967 and 1969, respectively.

In 1969 he joined the faculty of Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, as Professor and Senior Researcher in coastal and marine meteorology at the Coastal Studies Institute and Department of Marine Sciences. Since 1970, he has published more than seventy technical papers in the field of coastal and marine meteorology, air-sea interaction, and engineering meteorology.

Dr. Hsu is a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), American Geophysical Union, Chi Epsilon Pi, and Sigma Xi. He has been member (1977-1985) and chairman (1982-1984) of the National Committee on Meteorology of the Coastal Zone of AMS. He is a consulting meteorologist, certified by AMS.
