C. Nicholas Murray was born September 5, 1943, in Warrington, U.K. He received the Doctoral degree in chemical oceanography from the University of Liverpool, Liverpool, U.K., in 1970.After working at the International Atomic Energy Agency Laboratory for Marine Radioactivity (1971-1975), Principality of Monaco, and the Deutches Hydrographisches Institute, Hamburg, Germany (1975-1976), he took up his present post with the Commission of the European Communities, Joint Research Centre, Ispra, Italy, in 1977. His main area of research interest lies in the investigation of the feasibility and safety of storing nuclear wastes in stable sediment formations of the deep oceans.
