Peter H. Westermann obtained the B.Sc. degree in chemistry from the University of Bristol, Bristol, Eng., and the Ph.D. degree in polymer science from the University of Keele, Stafford, Eng.He joined the BP Research Centre, Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, Eng., in 1968 and initially worked on synthetic robbers and composites. His more recent work has involved materials aspects of offshore engineering and the study and instrumentation of sea ice.
