Peter M. Ogden received the A.B. degree from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, in 1974 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) in 1981, both in physics. His area of concentration was experimental infrared and optical astrophysics.
After graduation, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at UW-Madison, continuing his work in infrared interferometry of the interstellar medium. In 1984, he began working for Applied Mathematics, Inc., on various projects for Submarine Development Squadron Twelve, Groton, CT. These projects included submarine search tactics, target motion analysis, and submarine exercise reconstruction. In 1987, he accepted a position in the Acoustics division of the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC. Most of his work there was on the environmental acoustics aspects of low-frequency active sonar, particularly the scattering of sound from the ocean surface and bottom. During this time, he was primarily associated with the Critical Sea Test Program, serving on various experiments as a Principal Investigator, Test Scientist, and Co-Chief Scientist. He joined the Center for Naval Analyses in 1997, where he is a member of the research staff.
Dr. Ogden is a member of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and serves on the Technical Committee for Underwater Acoustics of the ASA.
