Fred. T. Erskine received the B.A. degree from Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, PA, in 1964, the M.S. degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA, in 1966, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1976, all in physics.
He heads the Active Systems Section of the Acoustic Systems Branch at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC, where he has conducted research on scattering and reverberation since 1981. He was affiliated with the Navy's Critical Sea Test (CST) Program from 1986 to 1996, and is currently Chief Scientist for the Office of Naval Research's Littoral Warfare Advanced Development (LWAD) program.
Dr. Erskine is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, the American Geophysical Union, the American Astronomical Society, the Federation of American Scientists, and Sigma Xi.
