Lynn K. Shay received the B.S. degree from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1976 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1983 and 1987, respectively, all in physical oceanography.

His research interests include the upper ocean response and the coupled atmosphere-ocean interactions during strong atmospheric events, such as tropical and extratropical cyclones, and ocean surface wave-current interactions. These phenomena are studied using aircraft, buoy, and land-based measurements, including hihg-frequency radar techniques utilizing the ocean surface current radar (OSCR).
