Christian Roux (M'84-SM'95) graduated from the Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan, France, in 1978 and received the Ph.D. degree from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France, in 1980.
He was previously with LETI-CEN de Grenoble and the University Institute of Technology, Caracas, Venezuela. He is now a Professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications de Bretagne, Brest, France, and head of the Department of Image and Information Processing. He was a Visiting Professor at the Medical Image Processing Group, Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1992-1993, and at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada, in 1996. In 1994, he co-founded the Laboratoire de Traitement de l'Information Medicale (Laboratory for Medical Information Processing), a joint research lab with the School of Medicine and the University Hospital of Brest. He is in charge of several international research programs in Venezuela, Hungary, and Poland. His research interests concern advanced image and information processing in medicine and biology, and telemedicine. He has published approximately 60 papers, holds three patents, and is co-editor of a book entitled Contemporary Perspectives in Three-Dimensional Biomedical Imaging (IOS Pres + Omsha, 1997). He served on the Technical Review Committee and as a track Chairman for the 14th Conference of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Soceity (EMB-S), as co-chairman of the Satellite Symposium on 3-D Advanced Image Processing in Medicine, and as one of the founders of the IEEE International Summer School on Biomedical Imaging.
Dr. Roux is an Associate Editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MEDICAL IMAGING, member of the EMB-S Conference and International Committees, chairman of the EMB-S Technical Activities Committee, and member of the Editorial Board of the IEEE Series in Biomedical Engineering and of the new IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN BIOMEDICINE. He has been elected as Region 8 IEEE EMB-S representative, and is member of the AdCom of the IEEE EMB-S.
