Klaus Striggow was born in 1934. He received the diploma in physics in 1958 and the Dr.-Ing. degree in 1973 from the Wilhelm-Pieck-Universität-Rostock, Rostock, German Democratic Republic.After having worked for three years in a research center of the industry, he joined the staff of the Institute for Marine Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR at Rostock-Warnemünde in 1961. Here he has investigated problems of coastal dynamics, physical oceanography, mean sea level, and instrumentation. Appointed to a deputy directorship from 1974 until 1982, he was the Acting Director from 1976 until 1980.
Dr. Striggow has authored 37 publications, among them three patents. He is coeditor of Beiträge zur Meereskunde, nominated member of Scientific Committee on Oceanographic Research (SCOR), and member of the Physical Society of the GDR.
