Philippe de Heering received the Ingenieur civil electricien degree from the University of Louvain, Belgium, in 1965 and the Doktor Ingenieurs degree from the University of Bremen, Germany in 1990.After his military service in the Belgian Navy, which he left as a Reserve Officer, he joined Saclanteen in La Spezia, Italy, as a Research Scientist conducting research in underwater acoustics and sonar. In 1982, he joined Canadian Astronautics Limited in Ottawa, Canada, as a Senior Scientist where he conducted research in Arctic acoustics, air acoustics, and nondestructive testing. In 1989, he became Senior Research Engineer with Agip SpA in Milano, Italy, in charge of off-shore applications of acoustics and signal processing. Since 1990, he has been with the European Patent Office in Rijswijk, The Netherlands, as a specialist in acoustics and geophysics. His research interests include Arctic acoustics and high-resolution sonar and geophysics.
