Russell E. Trahan, Jr. (S'69-M'71) was born in New Orleans, LA, on January 30, 1949. He obtained the B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from the University of New Orleans in 1970, and 1973, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977.

He has held a faculty position at the University of New Orleans since 1977, where he holds the rank of Professor of Electrical Engineering. During the summers of 1986 1989 he was awarded a Navy/ASEE Summer Faculty Fellow position at the Naval Ocean Research and Development Activity (NORDA) at Stennis Space Center, MS. He has continued as a Consultant to the Advanced Technology Branch of NORDA since 1987. His research interests are in the areas of optimization, controls, and data acquisition.

Dr. Trahan is currently Chairman of the IEEE New Orleans Section, and is a member of ASEE, ISA, Eta Kappa Nu, Phi Kappa Phi, and Omicron Delta Kappa.
