Hans C. Graber received the B.E. degree in civil engineering from the City College of New York, New York, in 1977 and the S.M. and Sc.D. degrees in coastal engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1984 on the subject of shallow-water wave dynamics.

He was a Guest Scientist from 1979 to 1980 at the Max-Planck Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg, Germany, supported by a NATO Fellowship. In 1985, he joined the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as an Assistant Scientist until 1990. Since 1990, he has been an Associate Professor in the Division of Applied Marine Physics at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Coral Gables, FL. His research involves studies of surface wave dynamics, remote sensing of oceanographic processes, air-sea fluxes and boundary-layer dynamics, radar backscatter, shelf and estuary dynamics, wave-current interaction, and sediment transport. In 1992, he formed the Radar Ocean Sensing Laboratory, which uses a dual-frequency Doppler radar to measuring ocean surface processes and currently serves as Director. He is the author and co-author of 35 journal articles and book chapters.

Dr. Graber served on several committees and panels for the National Academy of Sciences, the National Science Foundation, the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research, and the World Meteorolgical Organisation.
