Michael L. Burrows (SM'74) was born in England and received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from London University, London, England, in 1956. At the University of Michi gan, Ann Arbor, MI, he received the M.S. degree in 1959 and the Ph.D. degree in 1964, both in electrical engineering.His working experience has been obtained at the Radio Research Laboratories of the British Post Office, at British Insulated Callenders Cables, Ltd., at Conductron Corporation, Ann Arbor, MI, and most extensively, at Lincoln Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lexington, MA, where he has been since 1964. His principal professional interests lie in the areas of antennas, radio propagation, and electromagnetic scattering, areas in which he has published a number of technical papers. He is the author of the book ELF Communications Antennas (London, England: Peter Peregrinus, 1978). Adaptive antennas are currently the focus of his work.
Dr. Burrows was awarded a King George VI Memorial Fellowship to attend the University of Michigan for the academic year 1958-1959. He spent the year 1981-1982 on leave of absence from Lincoln Laboratory to work at the Admiralty Surface Weapons Establishment, Portsmouth, England.
