Geir Helge Sandsmark was born in Lund, Norway, in 1960. He received the siv.ing. degree (M.Sc.) in electrical engineering from The Norwegian University of Technology (NTH) in 1983, where he is presently working towards the Dr.ing.-degree.In 1984 he joined the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, where he worked with signal processing for synthetic aperture radar. Since 1985 he has been with ELAB (since Jan. 1989, ELAB RUNIT) in the Division of Telecommunications and Acoustics. His research interests include underwater data transmission and applications of estimation and information theory to ocean acoustic problems.
