Lavinio Gualdesi graduated from the Naval Academy, Livorno, Italy, in 1967, and received the naval architect masters degree from the University of Trieste, Italy.
He has been a Commander in the Italian Navy, and as Technical Director of Intermarine, Sarzana, Italy, he contributed to the design of fiberglass mine-countermeasure vessels. As Head of the SACLANTCEN Ocean Engineering branch, he has worked on buoy technology, and towed body and underwater structure prototypes and their construction since 1982.
