Kenneth E. Gilbert received the Ph.D. degree in theoretical nuclear physics from Michigan State University, East Lansing, in 1975.In 1978 he joined the Seafloor Division of Naval Ocean Research and Development Activity (NORDA), NSTL, MS, where he became active in the areas of bottom reflectivity and bottom-interacting acoustic propagation. In 1980 he became a Senior Scientist with the Numerical Modeling Division of NORDA, and he is presently Head of the Acoustic Simulation Branch in that Division. He has published papers concerned with modeling the reflection of sound from a randomly layered ocean bottom and with modeling underwater sound propagation in complex ocean environment.
Dr. Gilbert is a member of the Acoustical Society of America.
