Ivan J. LaHaie (S'77-M'82) was born in Bay City, MI, in 1954. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, in 1976, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1977 and 1981, respectively.From 1976 to 1980 he was a Research Assistant with the Radiation Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Michigan. During this time, he was involved in both theoretical and experimental research in electromagnetic scattering, including studies of television interference from large-scale wind turbine generators, induced current effects on scale-model aircraft, and the scattering properties of resistive materials. In 1980 he joined the Electro-Optics Department of the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (ERIM) as a research engineer, where he has been involved in several areas of electromagnetic and optical theory, applications, and systems, particularly in the areas of active and passive imaging, with emphasis on aperture synthesis and partially coherent techniques. He is also interested in the application of inverse scattering methods to synthetic aperture imaging systems.
Dr. LaHaie is a member of Sigma Xi and the Optical Society and is listed in American Men and Women of Science.
