Roger F. Dwyer (S'66-M'71) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from New York University, New York, NY, in 1967 and 1969, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, NY, in 1976, all in electrical engineering.Since 1972 he has been with the Naval Underwater Systems Center (NUSC), New London, CT, in the Surface Ship Sonar Department employed as a Research and Development Engineer for sonar signal processing applications.
While at NUSC, he participated in the development of an advanced surface ship sonar system serving the fleet today. He also made several notable contributions to signal processing in the Arctic ocean for which he holds a patent. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator for the application of advanced statistical concepts to underwater acoustic signal processing. He is also a member of the adjunct faculty of the University of New Haven, New Haven, CT, in the Electrical Engineering Department. His principal technical interests are in the areas of statistical signal processing, sequential detection, multidimensional signal processing, and higher order classification methods. He has published more than 40 articles, including contributing to a book on statistical signal processing by Marcel Dekker.
Dr. Dwyer held office in the Connecticut Section of the IEEE and was elected Chairman of the New London Subsection in 1979 and 1980. He is a member of the Administrative Committee (ADCOM) of the Oceanic Engineering Society and is also a member of the Acoustical Society of America. He is listed in Who's Who in the East, and is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and Sigma Xi.
