Karim Djouani was born in Ain-Beida, Algeria, in 1965. He received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Mechanics, I.N.S.M., Algeria, in 1989, and the Diploma of D.E.A. degree in industrial process control from the University Paris XII, Paris, France, in 1990.

Presently, he is preparing his Doctoral dissertation at the Control Laboratory of E.S.I.E.E., Paris, France, and University Paris XII, Paris, France. His work is in optimal control, system modeling and neural network in identification and control with specific application to ship modeling and robotics.
