Peter G. Cable received the B.A. degree in physics and mathematics from Haverford College, Haverford, PA, the M.A. degree in physics from Columbia University, New York, NY, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Maryland, College Park, in l966.

He was a NASA Pre-Doctoral Fellow while at the University of Maryland. He subsequently joined the staff of Naval Underwater Systems Center and remained there until l985 except for the academic years l969 and l970 when he held a faculty appointment at the Institute for Fluid Dynamics & Applied Mathematics, University of Maryland. In l985, he joined BBN Systems and Technologies, New London, CT, where he is a Principal Scientist engaged in acoustic, signal processing, and sonar system studies. His specific research interests include the areas of stochastic effects in underwater sound transmission, statistical communication and detection theory, and the modeling of self and radiated noise. Most recently he has been Chief Scientist for the shallow-water effort under the DARPA Adverse Environments Program.
