LeRoy O. Olson received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1960.

For the past 24 years he has been at the Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Washington, working as a designer of oceanographic systems. His main expertise has been developing and deploying open-ocean systems for scientific programs. Currently he is Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Laboratory and serves as project leader for the In Situ Heat Transfer Experiment.
