Nai-chyuan Yen (M'62) received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI, in 1962 and the Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, in 1971.He has been with the Acoustics Division of the Naval Research Laboratory as a research physicist since 1982. Prior to this, he held various research position with Acoustics Research Laboratory, Harvard University (1967-1971), the Naval Underwater Systems Center (1972-1979), and the U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center (1979-1982). He also has had several years of industry experience, with the Bendix Corporation, and A.M. international, from 1962-1972. His primary technical interests are in acoustic phenomena and their interaction with the medium and in signal-processing techniques.
Dr. Yen is elected fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, and is a member of ACM, AAAS, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi.
