If you want more detail, just let me know. Deliverables: The deliverable products for this project will be a proof of concept, battery powered, instrument controller and data logger system based on COTS technologies. The proposed system will include a moderately capable processor (PXA270) with enough compute power to perform in-situ event detection that might be expected in an autonomous instrument controller and 250+ Gbytes of data storage. In addition, the system will provide several low power modes to optimize power consumption with a goal of deployments of at least 6 month duration from a moderate sized battery pack. A single 24 bit, 100 kSample/second ADC channel will be provided along with several other instrument interfaces e.g., Ethernet, USB, serial, digital gpio. Along with the hardware, a PowerPoint report will be generated describing the system, its performance strength and weaknesses along with potential applications for future MBARI work. Timeline: The project will start after the MARS node is installed and working. Mid January is a reasonable estimate at this time. The work will be accomplished in the background of my primary MBARI project responsibilities and I would hope to have the system working, tested and the report done by mid May.
