## Strategic Planning Council ## Wed 09 Mar 2005 Agenda: Old Action Items Offsite Draft Roadmap Outline Next Steps Old Action Items: Send notes on science sessions->a read back of what science has said Outline plan (headley) Reconvene Wed. Will Marcia be at the offsite? Invited, depends on her schedule, maybe for one day Notes: Move SWOT to an appendix Presentation format: this is an opportunity to keep people's attention, need to Things to talk about: ways of connecting to science - engineers telling scientists what technology - oceanography instruction - Is it more valuable to spend time on a project learning - Should everyone be equally literate? - quality time short term projects with scientist - greatest impediments: - take too long - too complex, expensive - solve the wrong problems - didn't gather correct requirements? - didn't - not getting feedback, not because we dont know science - takes time: successful project execution is more important? - how about building science background information into proposal or as part of requiremnts process - we need to invest in our foundations--too focused on end product, not on process of defining and understanding the project - is this - blow's our cover, attend something too simple - what about auditing MLML classes? Other ideas: - science / engr ping-pong meetings: science says what's important, engr, presents relevant technologies - informal meetings were pretty good; takes more meetings to pick up the direction of science - building cruise time into projects->incremental - e.g. canyon dynamics, spectometry stuff, profilers Action Items: Everybody redline draft doc (turn on track changes) Everybody Add to implementation plan Prepare list of things to make presentation snazzy - Evolution of ROVs Meet again Fri at 1400 tentatively
