Create outline for strategic plan & road maps. Jan 21: 'Road maps' from each group. Jan 28: Over-arching 'road map' Feb 11: Revisions complete. Feb 18: Out for review March 21-23: Offsite (Engineering & selected invitees) - Review of SWOT analysis w/ discussion, revisions, additions, deletions - groups report on sections Strengths (mcewen,mellinger) Weaknesses (chaffey, mellinger) Opportunities (oreilly, hamilton) Threats (headley,oreilly) - Strategy Development: - Operating Principles to build upon strengths, mitigate weaknesses, leverage opportunities, avoid external threats - Not implementations (but we want to capture these) - match strengths:opportunities - address weaknesses and threats - Strategies are general, implementations are specific (but capture implementation ideas) - It's all good: we're brainstorming, half baked ideas are OK - Develop strategies for each SWOT issue - group 1:chaffey, mellinger, hamilton, paull, kolber - group 2:headley, oreilly, mcewen, zhang, rock, chavez - best effort to stick to strategies rather than implementations (corral implementation ideas) - develop strategies for each SWOT (40 min) - summarize to group (5 min each w/ discussion) - break (5 min) - The Platforms Roadmap (aka Strategic Plan) - Proposed structure - summary - SWOT analysis - accomplishing our mission (our strategies) <- we are here - criteria for success - plan review and update process - Map strategies into Strategic Plan outline (example from SDS): Focus on [solutions to] technology-limited marine-science research Execute crisply Process standards Coordinate with/track/leverage/promote solution standards Develop roadmap Focus on the right problems to solve Leverage expertise Collaborate to mitigate lack of expertise Hire for projects ???
