Yes ## Platforms proposals AUV Docking 003: Target functional requirements: - focus on observatories - not concerned with photic zone - (accessible other ways, less constrained) - coastal observatories might want this:can transit from deeper dock - reliability better in deeper water - there is a lot of information on website (use case studies) - had to start over after mark, tarun left; started again in Nov ~ 4 mo actual run time - working toward CDR - MARS is great advantage - Jim supported 3 docking projects (WHOI, private sector, Navy) - battery technologies, inductive power xfer: better tech avail - homing: can vehicle respond fast enough w/ USBL (18cm V 23 cm H resolution) - science champion? francisco, ryan, canyon ... bring in later. this is engr push. moving autonomy in the ocean. potential to enable things like Loihi proposal. - 3 yr plan? haven't down-selected yet, need to do CDR to know type of dock we'll use. Docking is getting a lot of attn (Bettel, Remus @ AUV fest) all shallow water systems. If we don't get one working in 2 years it may not be worth it. - keeping vehicles inexpensive is is really important -- can get reliability up later in process. - docking vehicle can be simpler -> more reliable - tie-in with hovering capability? collision speed, vs cost/complexity - currently dominant cost of AUVs is zephyr.
