The existing regen heaters are (to my suprise) holding up well regarding
insulation resistance.  Based on the low regen power levels we've
actually seen so far, it would definitely be safe to mount the existing
heaters much closer together, and in a more out-of-the-way location, and
thus perhaps reduce that "jailhouse" feel that the current
(conservative) design gives one.

Also based on the low power levels we're seeing, we can probably also
plan a re-design to a smaller and lighter heater assembly at some point
in the future.  Since the weight savings would only be a few or several
pounds, I would consider this a fairly low priority, AS LONG AS the
current heaters hold up OK.  I did talk to Carborundum & Co. about the
hollow tube heaters; they were clueless about high pressure effects and
so when we want to pursue that possibility we'll have to squeeze a few
parts on our own.  

Also before doing anything hasty we need to see what the actual regen
power is like with the control loops closed (and as a worst case,
mistuned) and the vehicle below cavitation depth.  Maybe if Bill gives
me an extra inch in the power can we can put the heaters inside it ...
and practically eliminate one of those huge DGO power connectors from
the end bell!
