Based on the low regen power levels we've actually seen so far, it would definitely be safe to mount the existing heaters much closer together, and in a more out-of-the-way location, and thus perhaps reduce that "jailhouse" feel that the current (conservative) design gives one. Also based on the low power levels we're seeing, we can probably also plan a re-design to a smaller and lighter heater assembly at some point in the future. Since the weight savings would only be a few or several pounds, I would consider this a fairly low priority, AS LONG AS the current heaters hold up OK. I did talk to Carborundum & Co. about the hollow tube heaters; they were clueless about high pressure effects and so when we want to pursue that possibility we'll have to squeeze a few parts on our own. Also before doing anything hasty we need to see what the actual regen power is like with the control loops closed (and as a worst case, mistuned) and the vehicle below cavitation depth.
