We had some experience with a product called Together Control Center from TogetherSoft. TogetherSoft was then purchased by Borland and they really managed to mess it up. It was really behind (no UML 2.0) support and was in dire need of an update. Borland tried to release it as an Eclipse product and it really did not work well. So we started to look around. Right around the time I started investigating other UML Tools, Borland came out with Together 2006 For Eclipse. So to give it a fair shake, we tried several tools (I found a fairly good tool list at http://www.softdevtools.com:

• Omondo
• VisualParadigm

Turns out the OOI group was interested in a similar tool, but had to have some special features like SysML and State Diagrams. I looked up SysML and there was a short list of tools supporting SysML:

• MDG Technology for SysML (Sparx Systems)
  • SysML Support: Sparx provides a plug-in to their popular and award-winning UML 2.x modeling tool, Enterprise Architect (EA), that supports the OMG SysML 1.0 specification. Consequently, you will need Enterprise Architect 6.5 to run this plug-in. However, both EA and the SysML plug-in are reasonably priced, so you will likely find this combination an outstanding value when you compare it with the competition.
• Artisan Studio (Artisan Software)
  • SysML Support: Supports some early version of SysML; not clear when the product will be updated to support OMG SysML 1.0.
• SysML Toolkit (EmbeddedPlus)
  • SysML Support: Embedded Plus provides a SysML plug-in for IBM's Rational Software Development Platform. Supports some early version of SysML; not clear when the product will be updated to support OMG SysML 1.0.
• Rhapsody v. 6.1 (Telelogic)
  • SysML Support: Supports some early version of SysML; not clear when the product will be updated to support OMG SysML 1.0.
• TAU G2 v. 2.6 (Telelogic)
  • SysML Support: Supports some early version of SysML; not clear when the product will be updated to support OMG SysML 1.0.

It does not generate all the clean of HTML and I could not get the roundtrip engineering to work very well. The option to refresh the code set was greyed out so I could not synch up the code. After laboring through it, I think I had it setup to do the code round-trip, but when I ran it, most of the classes in my diagrams disappeared and all the buttons and windows in the different panes disappeared (this could just be a Mac thing, but ouch!). I also could not find an easy way to define associations and have them link to getter methods in the code.	This is a bit involved. I figured we would want Enterprise mobile licenses as this allows on user to have it on three machines. Todd Anderson bought two licenses in 1999, so we could upgrade them for $1906 (that is for both). New mobile licenses are $1799 for locked and $2540 for concurrent. We will most likely get academic pricing which takes of %40 so that would end up as $1079 each for locked and $1524 floating. Maintence for new would also tack on $300 for each license. SysML and DODAF plugins cost extra and would be about $549 for both (each license).
