Engineering weekly meeting (Dec 6, 2007)

Birch Absent.  Notes by Jensen...

  1. Software situation
    2 bugs
    1. Continuation
    2. Dead Parents

Enough runs yet?# NEO completes 5 runs continuously, should we run 5 more?
Concern is we may run low on reagents.  No, hand over to science now that Brent has handle on where two bugs are.

We will stay with Ruby v. 1.6 and leave Neo as is.

 NEO

Cheri will change light-seal next week
Software will remain unchanged
intake is running slow--must check
science to find problem with arrays

Manipulator Redesign

Redesigned fingers are working well
Forearm
    motor pulley good
    front needs to be finished
Cheri waiting on machining of several arm parts and arrival of bearings.  Should be in tomorrow.

 MFB

Good results from first SPE run; good DNA yield

Concerns with SPE heater

*    fluidic bubble heating
*    loading and eluting at 2 different temperatures
*    will work toward thermal profiling
*    Add relay heater with solenoid

LLNL--they rec'd the heater Thursday, Nov 29, 2007.     Tony's email of Monday, Dec 3, 2007:

Jim, We got the block last Thursday. So far we have looked it over to see if anything was disconnected or obviously wrong with it. It looked fine. We have tested the LED's and DIODE's. They seem to be responding as expected, giving increasing response to increasing integration times and increases with the LED on vs off. At this point, I'm going to go ahead and tune it up and try a PCR reaction in it with the same reagents that I sent to you. Should be able to get to you with some results by the end of the day Wednesday. Tony

Discussion ensued about a Waste container.  Engineering will look into a hard volume waste bottle w/ filter and possibly hydrophilic gel similar to Cepheid or that used in scrubbers (chris P).

All parts for 2nd MFB have been ordered.  Will arrive next year (Jan. 2008)

Possible concern:  Burkert website says solenoid valves may be discontinued.  Addie will check on.VICI valves    order more for 2 spares
Puck Heater

Scott has developed a good model for temperature control via a modified puck sensor finger
We need to run a full mock mission (1 month) with acrylic can within our environmental chamber.

Science Stuff
Chris almost finished with NOPP proposal.  Scott & Brent to look over SOW.  Due Friday.

 FUTURE
must work out deployment schedule for network deployment
which instruments will be going and with what configuration?
fitting in testing for these instruments and rework time.
