Instrument Builds/Tech Transfer
- South Carolina person here August 21-29 to run Mack & Bruce (Tina Mukulsky (sp?))
- Bruce temp calibrations finished and verified. Mack will be finished by the end of today.
- Roman will help with verification check.
- Wiring harnesses for CMORE/NSF/Moe are in and being QC'd. Will wait to order MFB harnesses when grill layout is finalized.
- Gripper board and puck sensor boards have very slight redesigns. Still waiting to determine how many of each to make, and whether we should switch out current machines with new redesigned boards.
MFB
- motors on grill working, but encoders not. (FRIDAY update: encoders now working)
- We must come up with naming convention of the MFB's for accessing via software.
- Will daisy-chain power from SPE to PCR module.
- Serial connection from PCR to either host card or a laptop.
- Much discussion of whether to include a host card on each MFB. Without the card, stand-alone MFB's will require laptop to run; they would be unaffected when attached to the core. While it may impact low-level software development to have a host-card on each MFB, the simplicity of a complete stand-alone unit for the external user dictates mounting a host card.
- We must build several Power Boards; will populate here at MBARI (Scott)
- Closed-cell foam being explored for insulating the SPE block
Software
- Brent has 2 radios working simultaneously; working on adding a third.
- Second in priority is the limit-switch testing, a critical path item for DWSM
- At LINUX expo, Brent talked to people about putting WiFi on mooring, good for 7-8 miles los. We should explore; perhaps contingency project in 2009 for Brent.
- Antenna lease agreement finished and out for comment. We will need to purchase serial cable to connect house to radio.
DWSM
- Sphere update--We have had conference call to Tapemation. They expect to get spheres on lathe in 4 weeks, completed by end of October. Mark Brown looking into pressure testing facilities.
- Doug has found affordable Ti screws. Will use 6-40's and tap sphere accordingly. Tapemation has been notified.
- No word yet from El Camino. Doug predicts 3 weeks for bell housings.
- Many parts sent to machine shop. Mark B told that DWSM stuff is top priority. 'Soup Can' probably sent to Tapemation.
- Most COTS parts are here--still need Mini-Con's, Swageloc, various connectors/cables
- Electronics--Boards laid out; Scotts miniEE review probably the week of Aug 18
- Doug to have informal discussion with DMO about weight balance issues related to the as-yet-to-be-designed elevator.
Other Items
- syringes. Scott has the new 1ml and 2.5ml but the 25ml leaked and were sent back. Klone had a plan for fixing , but that was 6 weeks ago. Scott will contact...
- 11000 D-cells; account # provided and order has been sent to Jose.
- Decision is to go with plastic radio boxes, but with larger tapped holes with no metal inserts. Scott will talk to Jose about their manufacture.
