ESP Engineering Mtg -- Feb 7, 2008
11am-12
Present: Jim, Doug, Scott, Brent, Cheri, Chris S., Kevin
Absent: Addie
LATEST Deployment Schedule is HERE.
Tech Transfer
Discussion Items:
- Results of hand/arm testing.
- Brent wants to re-do some temperature calibrations with core placed inside box to remove air current effects. Will calibrate thermocouples this PM and get collection-side offsets tomorrow so science can start using on Monday the 11th.
- This PM Cheri will also calibrate Mack's hand
- Mike Parker Machining list -- working quickly through it
- Doug/Cheri worked on prototype of an adjustable temp sensor and will talk to Mike about it. Needs a priority. Will implement into Bruce, Mack will remain as is.
- New syringes.
- Still not heard back from company
- Screens and scintered frits
- Yesterday Scott sent plans to company for quote.
- We will order enough screens for 6 instruments. As soon as we have screen costs, we'll know how much money we have left and order scintered frits accordingly
- Camera Discussion
- Chris S. has found the 2x2 binning works well, so cameras will remain at f2.5 with ~2mm focus depth-of-field.
Action Items
Action Items from last week:
ACTION: check with Jose about number of dwarves to order (Scott) In progress: Jose has mad the first pass through and looks like all components are still available. Jose getting price and lead time on everything.
ACTION: syringes. Wait to hear from company final costs and order #'s and get sample of their new product. (Scott) In progress
MFB
Discussion Items:
ACTION: Addie to look at heating profile times to make sure we are not cooking our reaction. (Addie) In progress
Software
- puck heating control
- Brent needs one more day to get a better approximation on the collection side. Needs another puck--should be finished today.
- Brent added code that reversed polarity of the motor encoders, since these new motor-mounts have encoder rotating opposite direction of originals.
Action Items:
ACTION: Write 'cheat sheet' showing new parameter available for changing during sample collection (Brent)
Action Items from last week:
ACTION: Set-up sleepy board and an elmo on desk to emulate (Brent) In progress: Can't find elmo but have other pieces.
ACTION: working on a cue of interrupts in the threading environment (Brent): Low priority Not started
ACTION: Work with the auto-cal code for carousal and alignment (Brent): Medium priority Not started
Sphere and 4K DWSMS
- Sphere update
- Wah Chang has changed their procedure, and will only make one part, have it checked, then cast the second article. If something wrong with the first one, we will be 2 months late and must reschedule all the late 2008 deployments. If all goes well, 2nd half will be cast in June. Can get both from Tapemation in August. Send to Port Hueneme for pressure testing and get back mid-Sept.
- DWSM progress?
- Aqualung up a running. It does everything except accurately measure volumes pumped. Finding correct pumps has been difficult. Doug has several backup ideas including going to a syringe/piston system. Stirring pump found to generate much heat when submerged in oil, as well as leach out lubricant/coating so several ideas floated to balance friction (and thus power consumption) and stirring capability. Maybe try lighter oil.
- Battery boxes? Scott still waiting to hear.
ACTION: Waiting for company to return yes/no on whether they can manufacture screens to mass instead of size. (Doug/Scott) Finished
ACTION: Order two battery boxes (w/out batteries)--~$4K; account #701312.04: In progress: Scott waiting for lower price. Must order BATTERIES for deployment.
ACTION: Change cracked power connector on GG's lid (Cheri)
GUI Development
- Mission script GUI introduction
Kevin to meet with Brent to discuss mission script GUI.
On Table:
Chris P. must work with Brent before spring deployments to solve sampling problem
Chris P. and Brent need to address high volume issues for Sept deployment.
