Machine Builds

  • Betty cold testing--3 issues:
    1. at 2C there are borderline issues with carousel viscous friction, most definitely at -5C.  Inn current firmware, we can just run slower so no overcurrent.  In new firmware we can limit PWM so there is no overcurrent (it'll just run at different speeds at diff temps)
    2. Elbow misses and retrys--does it at 2C and more often at -5C
    3. Hand won't close around clamped puck--this was the Mack issue that we've been unable to repeat.  Has Cheri looked at hand alignment?

Brent will check with Julie to see when MOE will be cold-tested.  Still working on getting a new box from Scholfield built.

MFB

  • heaters #10 adnd #12 arrived today

Drifter

Software

  • Brent working to merge our 3 firmware versions. All looks good but he's now wrestling with code to allow different acceleration/deceleration rates.
  • Brent would like to collaborate with UCSC people for radio comms for the fall triple-deployment.

Deep ESP/DWSM

  • PISSer
    • Doug and Brent discussed many details of Pisser architecture
    • Will move GG on Monday; plug in when Scott here and re-create problems seen on Flyer cruise
  • Pressure Transducer
    • Will go with Stellar in NJ. Will go with 8-pin out; Brent waiting for final quote. Will approve PO today.

 Other Items

  • discussion of G3 ESP showed that we need a better list of functional requirements for this next generation ESP. What does science want to accomplish with this new instrument, where must it work, for how long, what are weight/vol constraints, etc. We will start thinking of something to go in the LRAUV, but these questions need answering before serious engineering can occur on mechanisms...
