Machine Builds

•  o-ring test out.  No results yet.  O-ring in Mack was not sealing properly; needs exploring/explanation.
• Pucks.  Have one set left to be etched, which will give us 4 complete snap-puck sets; all same rev, but different lots.

MFB

• Getting close to the end of the 2-grill build.  1 has had fluidics checked out; both have syringe and heaters calibrated
• Chris P running dye test on MFB01 now, may try and run PCR tomorrow
• Tomorrow AM will meet with McLane and map out the concepts of a visit for the core build.

Software

•  Moving from development mode to more a manufacturing mode has caused Brent to re-jigger the config files on both the Core and MFB's.  Each now has a PreConfig.RB, Config.RB, and PostConfig.RB, with the pre- and post- common to ALL MFB's; the Config.RB is unique to each unit.  This change is also being implemented on the cores.
• Brent has discovered a file accessing issue with the CTD that will require Bob Herlien's help for a week in early 2009.  This should stop the hiccup we've seen when hooking up new CTD's to the core(s).
• Xylinx issue still causing heartburn.  Now using old code, with both old or new compilers, produces corrupted results.  It has worked for many years, but now is flaking on us.  Wayne to delve into what is going on--this is top priority since DWSM uses these same xylinx boards for quadrature decoding.

DWSM

Sphere

• Chris S. has found that near-term 2500m is max depth we may want to go.  He has found that depth certification is very strict if Alvin will be near it (test at 150% 10x then hold 1hr at max).  Much discussion on whether this is necessary, what would we need Alvin for, the need for a manual release.  We want to go to maximum depth, but don't want the setup to become an engineering project in itself.
• DECISION:  we will outfit w/ strain guages and go to maximum (either of the test facility or to 3750m)
• Will get quotes from both Southwest and Port Heuneme;  Will try and have tested in January.

Elevator

• Have learned that prime real estate near MARS has already been taken, so we will need some type of long or extension cable, which may impact elevator design.
• CDR will be Wednesday (December 17).  Jim will schedule

DWSM

• No work since last week.

GUI Development

•  Kevin has taught Roman M. how to download data, which he has done for the last triple-deployemnt.

Other Items:

•  Discussed potential classes at JALA for Brent and Scott. Both will be going, with perhaps 2 science people.  Must get logistics to Cindy by tomorrow.
• Chris has spoken to Grech about moving ship days and not looking good.  Solution will be to move Feb and Aug orphan days to the Fall for another MARS hookup.  Although no extended running time before Flyer cruise in June, his deemed acceptable. Dates now look like this:
  • • Dive 1:  March 25--no core but elevator, DWSM, sphere
    • Dive 2:  April 7-core in sphere, elevator, DWSM-run WCR
    • Dive 3:  April 14-core in sphere, elevator, DWSM-minimal chemistry (SHA)
    • JUNE 8-12--Flyer cruise (these dates may be moved a few days earlier, depending on DMO scheduling changes)
    • AUG 16-26--Flyer to Axial
    • Dive 4:  Fall #1 -plug into MARS (date depends on what we can get that first week)
    • Dive 5:  Fall  #2- pick up from MARS
    • Dive 6: Nov 4--plug into MARS, pickup in early 2010
