Deployment Update

• All three instrument working well.  Problem with Neo's radio was that it was running on low power.  Trip to mooring allowed this to change.  Santa Cruz radio link was spotty; Brent thinks that the mooring is 100 yards too far east forcing signal to traverse lots of land.  A minor tweak of his roof antenna has made transfer speeds acceptable.
• Neo has had 1 error; elevator retry while moving pucks; doesn't look serious.
• Message rules need to be reviewed; phone emails of bad news are not getting sent.  Scott and Brent to work on this.

Machine Builds

• MOE:  temperature mounts made and now on
• elbow and harmonic drive still problematic.  Many hours by many people spent to get drive aligned but no luck.  Going to plan B:
  • order 2-axle (pre-aligned) harmonic drive and redesign mount on arm
  • use GG's arm to finish build and calibrating of Moe.  Cheri estimates 2 weeks and it will be ready to hand to science.
• Cheri working on BOM for the two ASTEP II instruments to be built in 2009.
• El Camino has delivered a small number of parts for the next two units

MFB

• Parts list for 3 ASTEP II MFB's and remaining parts for current 7 MFB's will be finished early next week.  Plan is to send jobs to a Santa Cruz shop since El Camino is overbooked.
  

Software

• Starlight Xpress, our camera manufacturer can still get old USB boards, but upon recalculation, we may not need them for 2009.  Currently we have 4 USB 1.1 cameras:  Doucette, Scholin lab, spare, and GG's. We could purchase and trade 2 newer cameras for Doucette and Scholin lab, and have 4 older cameras available.  Would still like a price for Starlight to make the old ones, but now no rush.
• Brent arranged a visit from a board manufacturer with ties to LabView.  Invited interested parties.

•  DWARF ISSUES:

• • Wayne has found you can take a good board, but when trying to clone bits from it, we can't identify the processor.  Much discussion on why this may be; perhaps blown fuse?
  • Writing of Dwarf Novella;  Brent & Wayne to meet Monday 2-4pm to discuss this.
  • Wayne building a Verilog motion-control test bench for Scott.
  • Cloning of Bufflehead:  Friday, 1:00pm start of clone.

DWSM

Sphere

Doug made Tapemation visit on Tuesday:

• • Sphere bottom looks good.  Lathing finished, now onto mill; should be finished ~ 2 weeks.
  • Top still an issue.  Doug re-did drawings to try and adjust to the poor casting.  Top will need minor machining (lift points, and thru-holes to connect to bottom)

DWSM

•  Will be built in Bldg. B lab
• Must build a test-rig for filtering oil
• Bulkhead plates (swiss cheese) have finished face-machining.  Now doing sides of plates.  Looks like Ray will finish before he goes on vacation.
• Doug ready for Dwarf/host/sleepy combo to start testing subassemblies.
• Syntactic foam to arrive in January.  Currently enough foam for 12 batteries, which is out contingent weight (if stuff is heavier than calculated, we will have to remove some batteries, lessening deployment time.)
• Preliminary elevator idea has been vetted with Lobos crew.  Preliminary dimensions and weights will work.
