Deployment Update

• October deployment:

  Using Shanna Rae;  MOB on October 8 (Weds), deploy October 9 (Thurs)

• Mission is defined for NEO.  Still to do for Mack and Bruce but should be straightforward
• Small Array format being difficult.  Will make call by end of day today on whether we can make it work;  we're very close, but may punt on it.
• If it works, need Brent to work on software integration.  He may work on it over weekend.

Machine Builds

• Moe--elbow still not working.  Scott conferring with engineers within company.  Mike working on putting counter-bore into holder piece which may help alignment.
• Moe should be ready by Oct 13 visitors.
• Bumper for NEO ready
• Board checkout--Dick got host board.  We need some dwarfs so Cheri/Addie may quickly check 2 out.  Cheri will show Wayne how checkout works, tomorrow.

MFB

• Much discussion of stand-pipe issue.  Decision was to not change what works, since it hasn't loosened since people have stopped messin' with it.
• Brent fixed a problem with the serial cable from the PCR module to the dwarf; power cycling is no longer a problem
• Have had 2 time-out errors with the AS; it loses its position but dwarf is not reset.  Brent will try upgrading firmware from v.2.50a(64Hz) to v.2.59a(64Hz).  If this doesn't work, we'll try a new dwarf.
• Bruce 'brain-freeze' may have been a network problem.  Brent changed from CAT 3 to CAT 5 cable in the B-lab.  Still watching for hangups.
• Addie contacting PCR-tubing company for a remake; in meantime we will NOT be asking LLNL for more tubing, as it appears the current tubing works.

Software

• Would like to freeze Mack/Bruce code by tomorrow (Friday).  Start radio tests next week.  Must exercise all assays to check out.
• Many chunks to stitch together for SAF to work on NEO.  Much discussion on how long that may take and how much cutting into our cold testing is acceptable.  Chris working with roman and brent on this.
• should re-name 'home syringe' on MFB (Addie).  Discussion finalized a solution.
• Brent discovered they don't make the old CTD's anymore and there is question as to whether our drivers will work with the new CTD model.  Decision is to use old CTD's on Mack and Bruce.  We then can 1) borrow another older model, 2) use the deep CTD (with wacky pressure gauge), or 3) get a new one and hope drivers work.
• Brent working on firmware today and will hand-off HEX files to Wayne

DWSM

• Drawings for both plates finished and gone over with Ray
• Estimate is that Ray will be working on these until October 23
• Oatmeal can is now called the Thermos, and is finished
• Bell housings are here and check-out.
• Burn-rates on ASTEP and NSF are acceptable; if we need more shop labor time, Chris S. can charge less to grant.
• there is one piece of pressure testing for DWSM that is $6K.  Approval given to purchase.

GUI Development

• Kevin out sick today, but stated the following in an email:Jim, the ESP GUI should be ready for the mission planning exercise tomorrow and I will work to finish it up today and roll it out to production tomorrow AM.  I can then work with Chris P (or whomever) to do the mission plan.  I have started on the data access part and am hoping to have something working over the next couple of weeks before the deployment ...

Other Items:

• Oceanography paper came in 6 pages over length limit, so we are not including photo of MFB mounted to core.  Photo-shoot next week is canceled.  Chris is editing down...
• Research on renting a storage van has begun.
• The heavily load in support engineering was explained to the ESP team.  Mark would love 30-days advance warning as many disparate projects have come due in Q4 and Q1, 2009.
