Machine Builds

  •  Cores:  A big thanks to Cheri for all her hard work these last 4 weeks preparing and then leading the build effort while McLane was here.
    • On Gordon and Betty:
      • all mechanical systems built, wired, and plumbed
      • all, that is, except the hands
      • discovered discrepencies on both Prunella and El Camino orders; some issues are the drawings, some are their work
      • we will be using one old, one new harmonic drive for the hands
    • R-valves.  6 of 35 boards were bad.  Dick had these marked in the Project Library, but Cheri didn't know about that spreadsheet.
  • HV pucks.  seems to be working well; got a nice array from 4L of fluid.  If it works well for invertebrates, we might modify some of our SH1 pucks to test before we place a new puck order.  Chris S. working on this.
  • We need screens by end of April/May deployments.  Science will inventory rings and screens so we can place new order.
  • WAG:  scope hardening of ESP to 200m = 1 year.
  •

MFB

  • Mike has finished SPE heater modifications.  Only need PCR tubing to ship to McLane.

Software

  •  dPress code ready for testing.  Wayne will load Monday AM
  • Brent not started on DWSM yet.

Deep ESP

  • ISUS
    • Luk says they have a 4km housing; just need a new probe--a PO away.
    • We WILL NOT put ISUS on elevator in June
    • John Ryan is taking over ISUS work.  We may eventually want a TI housing.  Craig Okuda may havve one for us (or a design)
Sphere
  • Spider construction.  All parts are machine shop.  Will be finished today.
  • Frank F. will do welding week after next in the high-bay.  We'll have to get the sphere bottom out of its crate for that.
Elevator
  •  Still 3 weeks out.  They had to send it out to be heat treated as their facility wasn't big enough.
  • Modem.  Because of where Clague will want to go while at Axial, we will probably NOT be within 2km of our drop site (which is required w/ a 60degree modem).  Doug thinks we should change to low frequency modem--still working on power calculations, but seems we will buy a Low Freq omnidirectional model.
  • Will purchase for the Flyer June deployment--must order in the next 2 weeks.
  • Foam.  being cut.  ready in 2 weeks $1400.

DWSM

  • Sample bags and switches are made
  • We may not have stirrer motors in both bags by April.
  • Bags are being assembled
  • Oil & water not being pushed yet-still having Jose make interface boards-should be finished early next week.

Other Items:

  •  Van:  Doug has provided sketch of outlets (16) and lights to Greg Voogd
    • we will push ESP to front of van and build a false wall so only front needs cooling
    • Idea to put foldable desks (like Murphy tables)
    • Need to check with Chris Grech about powering the van on UNOLS ships--what do we need?
    • Greg will level the van next week.
    • We need to figure out ventilation issues (i.e., false doors, screen doors, louvers, etc).  Check w/ Ussler's van--how does he ventilate?
  • Shallow ESP lids --need modification.  Original P1 connector is a threaded thing that is breaking.  Needs re-machining.  Scott will handle.
  • Potential Institute-wide chemical inspection--should have MSDS for all chemicals in Bldg A & B labs.
