Machine Builds
- History: At end of last surface deployment with Bruce, near end of mission, PS and PC started losing position and going in wrong direction.
- Upon recovery, Cheri ran several hundred PS/PC moves and the error never repeated.
- Yesterday NEO (deployed) showed exact same error. Cheri will watch; not enough time to have Brent dig into this issue.
- Cheri will check to see what bit version Bruce has (may not have the latest)
- Scott discovered dwarf/r-valve issue (1K resistor used instead of 100K); Dwarfs in DWSM/D-ESP have already been changed. This is a problem in ALL ESP's, but unclear if it results in errors we see on Bruce and NEO.
- PC and CC springs on Bruce have been replaced. Cheri noticed CC temp sensor needed replacement and is doing thermal calibration today.
- While temperature calibrating, will finish build of Gordon and Betty's hands. Both should be installed by end of today.
MFB
- PCR module #07 has arrived.
Drifter
- Much discussion about whether Drifter will be ready for a core next week on Flyer cruise. Many possible failure modes that we haven't had time to fully test. Examples:
- lose control of cable and core goes too deep and gets crushed.
- what if we can't respool? How to recover with 200m of line out.
- safety stop once core is pulled under buoy. Breaking off the termination would not be a good thing.
- loss of communication; this state still needs to be coded
- Gene thinks that many of these problems will have fixes by next week, and thus having a core in the can for DAYTIME deployments would be an acceptable risk. He is VERY uncomfortable leaving it through the night when we cannot watch it. Much discussion ensued and we needed Science input (chris!!!). But the general consensus was one of high anxiety at the lack of testing of software control, and of core communications through same modem as Drifter control. For that reason, we decided to go with an empty can/mooring, wired with pressure and accelerometer. Scott will work with Mike P on preparing the can, lid, and mooring.
Software
- Looks like changes to the dPress CPLD are working well.
Deep ESP/DWSM
- Brent working on software.
- High Pressure test for DWSM leaks is tomorrow. Doug working out how to tighten bells with minimum fuss. Van will be cooled to 2C tonight, bells tightened tomorrow AM, and pressure raised to 3000psi at the intake port. Minimum test is to see if anything leaks in upper bells. may try and move valves.
GUI
- Will be loaded on Gordon and Betty for beta testing.
Deployment Issues
For June:
- Mack in sphere
- empty can on Drifter
- Moe on bench (and Bruce?)
