Adobe Premiere Capture Settings

When loading up Adobe as Administrator the first window that should appear is the Load Project Settings window. This window will also appear after a project has been opened by going to File -> New Project. This window allows a user to set up the video, audio, and settings. Highlight an existing Preset on the left and click on Custom…

This opens up the New Project Settings window. Under General there are three text fields that need to be configured; Editing Mode, Timebase, and Time Display. Next to Editing Mode: scroll down and highlight TARGA 3000. Next to Timebase: scroll down and highlight 29.97. Next to Display: scroll down and highlight 30 fps Non Drop-Frame Timecode. The settings should look like the image below.

Click on Playback Settings to open the TARGA Settings window. Under the Playback make sure that Scrub frames is selected, Playback overlay usage is checked, Video Input (Composite: No Signal Present) is selected, Render icon proxies for translations is unchecked, and Number of real time playback streams is set to 2. The settings should look like the image below.

Once everything checks out click OK and you are back to the New Project Settings window. Under the first pull down menu where it should read General scroll down one to Video. Under Compressor: scroll down to TARGA 3000 RGB (32 bit). Next to Frame Size: type in 720 for h and 486 for v. Make sure that 4:3 is unchecked. Next to Frame Rate: scroll down to 29.97 and next to Pixel Aspect Ratio: scroll down to Square Pixels (1.0). Finally, under Data Rate make sure that Recompress is unchecked. The settings should look like the image below.

Under the first pull down menu that reads Video scroll down to Audio. Along side Rate: scroll down to 48000Hz. Next to Format: scroll down to 16 Bit – Stereo. Next to Interleave: scroll down to 1 second. Under Processing Options make sure that Enhance Rate Conversion: is Off, Use Logarithmic Audio Fades is unchecked, Create audio preview files if there are: has a value of 5 or more active audio tracks and 1 or more audio filters applied. The settings should look like the image below.

Under the first pull down menu that reads Audio scroll down to Keyframe and Rendering. Put a check next to Real Time Preview and make sure that all other boxes are unchecked. Next to Fields: scroll down to Lower Field First. The settings should look like the image below.

In the first pull down menu that reads Keyframe and Rendering scroll down Capture. Alongside of Capture Format: scroll down to TARGA 3000 AVI. Next to Capture Video check the box and next to Rate: scroll down to 29.97. Next to Report Dropped Frames and Abort on Dropped Frames check the boxes and next to Capture Limit should be unchecked. Under Device Control set the values next Preroll Time: to 5 and Timecode Offset: to 0 leaving the box next to Log Using Reel Name unchecked. The box next to Capture Audio should be unchecked. The settings should look like the image below.

Click on the Settings… tab once all the settings are correctly in place. This should open the TARGA Settings window under the Capture tab. Under Input Source, scroll down to Breakout Box. Under Overlay next to Enable Overlay check the box. Under Video Format, next to Compression, scroll down to YUV (4:2:2). The settings should look like the image below.

Once all the settings are complete click OK and the New Project Settings window should appear. Click on Load and then click on Save. This should open up the Save Project Settings window. Here there are 2 text fields; Name and Description. Under Name: type in AVED Project TARGA 3000 NTSC RGB. Next to Include Device Control Settings check the box. (NOTE: If the check box is de-selected by the system and will not allow you to check it, do not worry as this can be adjusted –see footnote at end of document). Click ok when finished.

Once back into Load Project Settings select your new project and press OK. In Adobe select Project -> Settings Viewer… When the window appears click on Export Settings. This opens the Export Movie Settings window with the first drop down menu set to General. The Settings Viewer looks like the image below.

Under the General settings next to File Type: scroll down to Quick Time and next to Range: scroll down to Entire Project. Check boxes next to Export Video and Open When Finished. If the Export Audio and Beep When Finished boxes are checked uncheck them. Under Embedded Options: scroll down to None. The settings look like the image below.

In the first pull down menu that says General scroll down to Video. Under Compressor: scroll down to Planar RGB. Under Depth: scroll down to Millions+. Next to Frame Size: put in the values 720 for h and 486 for v. Uncheck the box for 4:3 Aspect. Next to Frame Rate: scroll down to 29.97 and next to Pixel Aspect Ratio: scroll down to Square Pixels (1.0). Under Quality type in 100%. Uncheck the box next to Recompress. Click on the Palette button when finished. The settings should look
like the images below.

After clicking on the Palette button the Make Palette window appears. Select Make Palette from Movie and click on OK. The setting should look like the image below.

After Clicking OK the Export Movie Settings window should reappear. In the first pull down menu scroll down to Keyframe and Rendering. All boxes should be unchecked. Next to Fields: scroll down to Lower Field First. Once finished click on the button Load and then click on button Save. After selecting Save button the Save Export Settings window appears. Under Name: AVED QuickTime. Next to Include

Device Control Settings check the box. The settings should look like the image on the last page.

Device Control Footnote: If the system did not allow you to select the Device Control settings while setting up the Capture Settings for the AVED project, this can be set before performing video capture. Start up Adobe Premiere. Click on File, Open Project, and choose the AVED Project TARGA 3000 NTSC RGB project settings and click OK. This will create your new project. Next, under the main menu, click Edit, Preferences, Scratch Disk and Device Control. A new window should open with two main sections called Scratch Disks and Device Control. Under the Scratch Disk selection, select or browse to a location for Captured Movies to be saved by the system (i.e., D: \salamy). Next, under the Device Control section, click on the pull-down menu and select the ProVTR6.5 device control option. When done, click OK. The system should now capture video correctly from the Beta drive deck.
