About VARS replication to DIONE
From Neil Conner:
Okay, Brian, it's all ready to go. This is a two-step process:
- I created permanent backup devices (fixed files) on a network share for the VARS and VARS_KB databases on both Equinox and Dione.
- On Equinox, I created a new maintenance plan called "VARS_Export Backups" which writes a full backup of VARS and VARS_KB to the respective backup device and scheduled it to run the first Monday of each month at 3:00am.
- On Dione, I created a SQL Agent job for the VARS database called "VARS_Export Restore from Equinox" and one for VARS_KB called "VARS_KB_Export Restore from Equinox". Both jobs run the first Monday of each month at 5:00am.
- The VARS job has the following four steps: 1) does a restore from whatever happens to be in the respective backup device, 2) deletes unnecessary user accounts, 3) runs the embargo script and 4) updates the URLs; the VARS_KB job has only the first two steps. Both jobs create a log file on Dione and send me an email on failure.
