Stair dialog box
Use the Stair dialog box to select a stair type and enter stair dimensions. You can also define stair wedge and specify how stringers are displayed. The graphics below show a closed stringer and the dimensions required to create the stair geometry in Mastercam Router. The same dimensions apply to both closed and open stringers.

Open stringer
Supporting member of the stair cut so that the treads and risers are mounted on it.
Closed stringer
Supporting member of the stair with routed slots into which the treads and risers are mounted.
Finish to finish floor height
The total rise of a stairway. Measured from the subfloor of the lower floor to the finished surface of the upper floor. Be sure to include the structure between the ceiling and the subfloor, and the thickness of any flooring on the upper floor.
Total run
The total horizontal distance covered by the stairway, typically measured horizontally from the front of the top riser to the front of the bottom riser.
Number of stairs
Enter the number of risers. Note the stair rise and stair angle fields are modified based on the number of stairs.
Tread thickness
Enter the thickness of the material to be used for the tread.
Riser thickness
Enter the thickness of the material to be used for the riser.
Stringer width
Enter the width of the material to be used for the stringer.
Overhang Amt
Enter the distance the tread extends beyond the riser. The overhang amount is typically large enough to accommodate cove molding.
Top riser offset
Creates a line to close the stringer boundary. Measured from the front of the top riser along the top tread.
Bottom riser offset
Creates a line to close the stringer boundary. Measured from the front of the bottom riser outward.
Wedges
Wedges are shims used for securing the risers and treads into a closed stringer. Adds additional space in the routed channel on a closed stringer, then enter the tall-side height, short-side height, and length of the wedge.
Angle (Wedges)
Enabled by selecting Wedges. Shows the degree of slant for the wedges. Updates based on the wedge heights and length.
Height (Wedges)
Enabled by selecting Wedges. Enter the height of the short side of the wedge (left) and the tall side (right).
Length (Wedges)
Enabled by selecting Wedges.
Draw right side stringer
Select to produce the right stringer in the graphics window. Deselect Draw left side stringer to view a portion of the right side of the stringer before creating it.
Draw left side stringer
Select to produce the left stringer in the graphics window. Deselect Draw right side stringer to view a portion of the left side of the stringer before creating it.
Rotate the stringer/s to x axis
Select to draw the stringer along the X axis in the graphics window. This checkbox arranges both the left and right stringers so that the inside faces up, in order for both stringers to be machined together efficiently.
Stair rise
Read-only. Shows the height of each stair based on the values you enter.
Stair angle
Read-only. The angle of the entire staircase, from the bottom floor to the top floor, based on the values you enter.
Stair run
Width of the stair measured from front to riser to front of riser.
