Advanced Settings dialog box
Advanced Settings determines the tool motion on the edges of surfaces and solids, and the accuracy, or tolerance, of tool motion on sharp corners for Surface Rough/Finish toolpaths. You can also perform checks for hidden solid faces and sharp internal corners on surfaces.
Parameters
Reset
Returns the settings to the manufacturer's settings.
Automatically (based on geometry)
Allows Mastercam to set tool rolls depending on the presence or absence of a tool containment boundary, and in some cases, on the geometry itself. If you define a tool containment boundary, the tool rolls over all surface and/or solid edges, both between surfaces and the extreme edges of the part. If you do not define a tool containment boundary, the tool rolls only between surfaces and/or solid faces.
Only between surfaces (solid faces)
Rolls the tool between surfaces and/or solid faces only, but not the extreme edges of the part.
Over all edges
Rolls the tool over all edges of the surface and/or solid, both between surfaces and at the extreme edges of the part.
Distance
Breaks the rolling tool motion into smaller increments of a specified distance. A higher tolerance, designated by a smaller number, creates a very sharp corner with more increments. A lower tolerance creates a rounder corner with fewer increments.
% of cut tolerance
Breaks the rolling tool motion into smaller increments that are measured as a percentage of the cut tolerance. You can update the cut tolerance without resetting this option. A tighter tolerance, designated by a smaller number, creates a very sharp corner with more increments. A looser tolerance creates a rounder corner with fewer increments.
Skip hidden face test for solid bodies
Hidden faces on a solid model are not machinable in a 3-axis toolpath. Select this option on large solid models with many faces to process the toolpath more quickly. Clear this option on smaller solid models with a low number of faces.
Check for internal sharp corner
A surface with a sharp internal corner may lead to a toolpath that causes gouges. Sometimes, through data exchange, surfaces may be imported to Mastercam that contain internal sharp corners. Mastercam notifies you with a warning message if it encounters a sharp corner in the surface, and recommends that you remodel the surface.
