In the Analysis Dialog Box, a Distortion Pressure range of 1,000 - 20,000 psi was chosen from a list of various ranges and units.
The analysis indicates that titanium ballast housing would incur shell failure at 19.425 Ksi, or a seawater depth of 42,528 feet, which is a more than adequate margin for a product to be used 13,000 feet under seawater with a design margin of 2.0.
The DeepSea Power & Light designer is always interested in minimizing the weight and cost of DeepSea products without decreasing quality or performance.
The Analysis Dialog Box shows him that the water weight of the Ballast housing, not including internals and endcaps, is over 3 pounds. Plus, titanium is expensive. So, he decides to try the same analysis for the same housing, but manufactured from aluminum.
