Software Requirements

You may need a web browser with a DjVu plug-in for accessing the contents of the CD-ROM set. The index files and minipapers are in HTML format and the files containing technical content are in DjVu format.

The CD-ROM is prepared in ISO 9660 format and should be readable on most CD-ROM drives under Windows, Macintosh, and many flavors of UNIX (including Sun Solaris and Linux). In particular, the CD-ROM set is tested under the following platform and browser combinations.

  • Windows 95/98/NT/2000; Netscape 4.5 or higher (Netscape 6.0 not fully tested since it is still in beta release), Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher.
  • Sun Solaris Unix/Linux (Red Hat); Netscape 4.5 or higher.
  • Macintosh 9.0 or higher; Netscape 4.5 or higher, and Internet Explorer 5.x. This CD-ROM set is not tested under Mac OS X. In particular, the ASTAware search engine may not work under Mac OS X.

It is essential to configure your Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer to handle Javascript.

Browser and DjVu Plug-in: For your convenience, we have included the DjVu plug-in software in this CD-ROM set. This software is usually found on CD-ROM 0. Please check the contents of the CD-ROM set for the location of the software. Latest versions of the DjVu plug-in software is available at http://www.lizardtech.com. Please install the DjVu plug-in following the instructions.

Browsers: For your convenience, we have included certain versions of the Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers. This software is usually found on CD-ROM 0. Please check the contents of the CD-ROM set for the location of the software.
