Dynamic Rotation function

Use this function to dynamically rotate entities in the graphics window around a selected point or position. The geometry remains in the original orientation relative to the system and work coordinate system axes. Only the graphics view is changed.

When you choose this function, you first select an AutoCursor position, sketched point, or a position in space, and then move the mouse to rotate entities around the selected point.

NOTE

To enable free mode in Dynamic Rotation, use the View Settings properties page of the System Configuration dialog box.

If you access this function using the mouse wheel, the cursor position in the graphics window defines the rotation point. When clicking over geometry, a target icon appears and the geometry is highlighted. The target icon is the center of rotation. If no geometry is highlighted when you click, the rotation point becomes the center of the screen at the current Z depth. Hold [Shift] to change from normal dynamic rotation to 2D rotation about the center of rotation. Free mode must be enabled for 2D rotation.

Normal Rotation 2D Rotation
Normal dynamic rotation on the part. 2D rotation about the center of rotation.

Dynamic rotation is done in free mode by default. Free mode allows you to rotate the geometry in all axes without restrictions. When not in free mode, dynamic rotation restricts the motion of the Z axis. Moving the cursor left or right spins the image about the Z axis in the XY plane. The Z axis remains vertical. Moving the cursor up or down spins the geometry by tilting the Z axis into the screen.

Snap to views in dynamic rotation

Select this option on the View Settings property page to automatically snap to standard views (top, front, right), during dynamic rotation. You can set the snap tolerance (in degrees) within which the part snaps to a standard view when you release the mouse button.

Press and hold [S] while dynamically rotating to temporarily suspend snap to views.
